Why Study International Studies at Westminster?

• Learn about the contemporary world through a special concentration in regional studies (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East)
• Enhance your world language skills by connecting them to your major in International Studies
• Study abroad for credits in the major and use that experience to gain valuable knowledge of your area of concentration in International Studies

Cool Classes

The junior-senior seminar in international studies (INT 401) will introduce students to international issues in their region of study. It will also introduce them to a "graduate school" level analysis of issues and topics related to international studies. Students learn the literature, methods, and approaches used in writing a major paper suitable as an "honors" thesis or for submission to graduate and professional schools or for a dossier for careers in international affairs and other professions after college.

Beyond The Classroom

Students can study abroad and have fascinating experiences. In recent years, international studies students have completed semesters abroad at universities in Oviedo, Spain; Angers, France; Paris, France; and Winchester, England, to name a few. Some have gone on Westminster faculty-led tours to Belize, China, Germany, and Greece. Also, participation in Westminster's award-winning Model United Nations program has been a major part of the international studies experience (and curriculum) for over 30 years.

Career Opportunities

  • International Studies majors have gone on to work and graduate schools in several areas.

Shallon Okello'12 Westminster Alumni "I'm seeing success in the 'real world' as a direct result of my international studies degree. I was recently accepted to graduate school to concentrate on an international policy major and I attribute this to my international studies degree from Westminster. It helped me develop an interest in global issues and a need to work for a NGO where I can be a policy-maker and leave an imprint on the world." Sharon Okello '12, Uganda MA candidate, Monterrey Institute of International Studies at Middlebury College, Monterrey, CA
