Why do you work for Westminster?
I work for Westminster because I truly believe in the quality education the students receive. The small campus, individual attention, and the global connections make Westminster stand out above other small colleges. You forget we only have just under 1,200 students on campus because of the opportunities our students receive and the activities which are always happening on campus. The best thing about working for Westminster is the Family and Friendly atmosphere. You see it while walking across campus, at the Dining Hall, and at our Sporting Events to name a few.
Why did you choose to be an Enrollment Counselor?
I fell into my job as an Admission Counselor. Being an Admission Counselor was not my dream job after I graduated college…it was just a job. Now 11 years later, I can't think of doing anything differently than working with students and helping mold their futures.
What's your favorite memory of being a counselor so far?
I have so many favorite memories of being a Counselor. It's always amazing to watch the students who you have helped from sometimes their junior year of High School all the way through to their College graduation. It always gives me chills to watch them walk through the Columns their first day on campus and then I have to hold back the tears a few years later watching them walk back through the Columns after they graduate. Then a few years later being invited to their wedding.
List a couple of your hobbies.
I like to walk, bike and run. I've completed 3 Half Marathons, 1 10K, and way too many 5K's to count. Other than physical activity I enjoy hanging out with my friends, going to the movies and catching up on shows in my DVR. I'm also a sports addict. I love watching College sports, NFL, and MLB. Besides Westminster, I have my favorite teams but you will have to come to Westminster to find out which ones!
What's one thing about your personality most people wouldn't assume about you?
While at work I'm always very social to students and parents as well as coworkers. But I can be very quiet and shy. If I don't feel I need to be talkative then I prefer to be in the background.
What's your favorite piece of advice to share with students who are researching colleges?
When looking for a college, make sure it's truly a good fit for YOU. Don't follow your friends or boyfriend/girlfriend to college or attend a college because of a coach or sport, choose the college where you feel comfortable and can help you reach your future goals.
