Biography:Originally from the St. Paul/Minneapolis area, I received an undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota. I went on to receive my masters in Educational Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri - Columbia, with an emphasis in Career Counseling. While I was pursuing this degree I had the opportunity to work in the campus career center - where I discovered my niche!
I am absolutely passionate about the field of career counseling and truly enjoy assisting individuals at the college level. I work with students who are seeking help in choosing on a major, selecting a graduate program, writing a resume, preparing for an interview, or are looking for employment. I especially enjoy it when I can assist a student in their freshmen year and then have the privilege of seeing them graduate and move on to a sucessful career or graduate program!
Before coming to Westminster in 1998, I worked as a Director of Career Services at another private college, and also as a Facilitator of workshops for "displaced workers". I have also worked for a private relocation firm that specializes in assisting spouses with securing employment. Other jobs I have held, that have contributed to my personal knowledge of the "working world", have been Social Worker, Deputy Juvenile Officer, and Realtor.
Growing up in a large university community, I was never aware of the advantages of smaller, private, colleges until I became a part of them. I was immediately impressed with the quality of education in the private colleges, and am now a great advocate of a more personalized approach to education! In a college environment such as Westminster, students are in a daily position to develop their communication skills, both written and oral, which just happens to be the number one skill employers are looking for!
My husband, Roy, a Realtor and Property Owner/Manager, and I enjoy many outdoor activities. We can be seen on weekends enjoying our recreational land with our two sons, Russ and Eric. We also enjoy reading, skiing and horse-back riding. On a more civic note, I am President of the Columbia Toastmasters Club, and enjoy assisting individuals, whether they be college students or adults, improve their communication and leadership skills.
