As Director of Media and Public Relations, Rob is responsible for positive public, media and campus relations, serves as official media spokesperson, and promotes the brand, curriculum, programs, and educational philosophy of the College to the general public and the media. He assists with the planning and execution of special events at the College and the speaking engagements, media relations, and appearances of the President.
Rob holds a master’s degree in speech and theatre and a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He also holds a lifetime teaching certificate.
Rob holds the historic distinction of being the only Executive Speechwriter for three Missouri Governors. From 1995-2004, he served in this capacity for Missouri Governors Mel Carnahan, Roger Wilson, and Bob Holden. Previously, he performed public relations and spokesperson duties for the Missouri House of Representatives as Director of Press Communications (1992-95) and House Public Information Officer (1987-1992). He also worked as Public Information Coordinator for the Missouri Department of Economic Development and as a teacher for 18 years with the Cameron R-I and Nodaway-Holt R-VII school districts, serving as Chair for the English, Speech, and Theatre Departments.
Active in politics, Rob has worked on the presidential campaigns for Bill Clinton and Dick Gephardt and campaigns of numerous statewide and legislative candidates. He also has authored the memoirs of Missouri Governor Warren Hearnes, co-authored books on the Carnahan and Holden administrations, and published articles for the American College Theatre Journal, National Association of Women Legislators, Missouri Association of Counties, and other periodicals.
Since Rob started at Westminster College in the fall of 2005, he has had the privilege of working on the successful planning and execution of such great events as the opening of the new Churchill Museum and 60th anniversary celebration of Churchill’s Iron Curtain speech, the 20th anniversary celebration of the Berlin Wall sculpture and the fall of the Berlin Wall, the annual Westminster Symposium, the Congressional designation of the National Churchill Museum, the annual President’s Dinner, the first Smithsonian exhibition on campus, and the creation of the television feature, “This Day in History.”
Rob is a member of the Fulton Rotary and Callaway Leadership Class 2006 and founder, producer, and director of The Capital City players, a theatre company in Jefferson City. He is married and lives with his wife Chris in Jefferson City. He has one son, Courtney.
