Take-home Option for Exam IIII

Section A(TuTh 9:25 am) due 10:30 am, Monday, Dec 12
Section B (TuTh 2:00 pm) due 5pm, Thursday, Dec 8
(in both paper and electronic form)

Directions:
    Option 1: write two 600-900 word essays on two of the topics given below
    Option 2: write one 1200-1800 word essay on one of the topics given below

Topics:

1. Religion: Is the role of the gods in the movie more like that of Thucydides or that of Herodotus? Discuss. Significance? As usual, use only the movie and the passages we read from Thucydides and Herodotus. (shorter paper: discuss only one ancient author).


2. "Survivor II: Ancient Greece" on the "History" channel. Determine, based on the evidence and criterion below, who would win and who would lose this Survivor game and why.
Contestants: Socrates, Philip II, Alexander, and the "Achilles" of the movie  (shorter paper: pick from two of the above)
Evidence: Plato's Apology, Pomeroy on Philip II and Alexander, and the movie
Criterion: who made the most significant and/or pervasive contribution to modern Western society?

3. "CSI: ancient Greece" Casting has begun for the show. What parts/roles would you assign to Socrates, Philip II, Alexander, and a character from the movie and why; longer version: also determine which of the cases from Kebric, Ch. 7. would work best as an episode.
