Essay Questions:
- Long
Essay
Questions:
(400-500 words long)
- The charter
theory does not "work" for all the trickster myths given in Leonard's
chapter on tricksters. Determine and demonstrate what the hallmarks are
of those it will work for and those it will not.
- Compare and contrast Athena and
Ares based on the evidence in Powell. Don't forget that a good essay
will not simply be a list of differences and similarities and will pay
close attention to the actual myths presented in Powell (as opposed to
his discussion of the deities).
- From the deities
covered in the readings from Powell and Leonard in this unit, determine
which one you would want to be and which you would not want to be. Make sure you
- give reasons based on the actual myths as
presented in the chapters (as opposed to the discussions about the
deities)
- choose one Greek deity and one
non-Greek deity
- show sufficient insight
into the character of the deities you choose (i.e. if this had been a
question on the last exam, liking to throw thunderbolts would not have
been a sufficient reason for choosing Zeus)
