Write
on
one of the topics
below:
1.
We recently covered in class the Heroic Code. After a careful reading
of the selection from Hesiod's Theogony
(lines 287-332) and the selection from Euripides' Heracles Insane (lines 925-1008) in
Powell's chapter on Heracles, evaluate Heracles' life via the Heroic
Code. Your
introduction should succinctly state what the Heroic Code was (don't
forget to cite). For this paper it is important that you
cite (and sometimes quote) concrete lines from both works.
2. We recently covered in class the Heroic Code. After
a careful reading of the selection from Virgil's Aeneid (8. 190-269) and the
selection from Sophocles' Women of
Trachis (lines 503-529, 555-581, 749-806) in Powell's chapter on
Heracles, evaluate Heracles' life via the Heroic Code. Your
introduction should succinctly state what the Heroic Code was (don't
forget to cite). For this paper it is important that
you cite (and sometimes quote) concrete lines from both works.
3. All four of the authors used language to create
specific moods in each of the passages listed in topics 1 and 2. For
2-3 of the authors detail how they create the mood they do (don't
forget to name what mood each creates) and in your conclusion determine
and demonstrate which of the authors is more (the most) effective.
For this paper it is important that you cite (and
sometimes quote) concrete lines from works listed above for the authors
you are discussing.
