The Portfolio

Form: use a three-ring binder with dividers.

Contents:

  1. A table of contents page (you must indicate here if you are revising any papers for the portfolio and wish them to be graded! Likewise if you do not e-mail the revised papers in a form I can access and do not turn in the previous version with my comments sheet, I will not grade the revision)
  2. A 600-900 word essay (see topic below)
  3. The review of the movie
  4. The In-class Exam
  5. All papers written for the course (along with the Presentation outline), including all drafts on which I provided comments.
  6. Handouts assigned for class
  7. Class notes and reflections on the readings, class presentations, films, and other class activities.
  8. Revising: You may revise your papers (but do not have to), but note that this revised version will count for 60% of the grade for that assignment with the previous drafts worth 8% (first draft) and 32 % ("second" draft). You may also revise the Presentation Outline (full credit).

Topic: Imagine the you have spent the past semester studying in ancient Rome and are writing home for the first time. In your letter describe what you have learned and experienced; you may also add what impact these have had on you.

Electronic copies: you must e-mail the Essay in a form I can access or there will be a significant penalty (again, you must e-mail me new revisions of previous papers if you opt to revise them, and, if you do not e-mail the revisions of the previous papers, I will not grade them) .

Grading: The portfolio will be evaluated on the basis of thoroughness, clarity, organization, and evidence of critical thinking in such things as your notes, etc.
