Politics: Explain the impact and importance of 3 Roman Leaders from 3 different time "periods".
Slaves & Freedpersons:  Several years ago, an aid to President Bush reversed the typical saying "Every cloud has a silver lining" to "Every silver lining has a cloud" (NPR: AIDS Funding, 2/11/03). Compare and contrast the lot of slaves and the lot of freedpersons with regard to the aid's statement: "Every silver lining has a cloud". Make sure you give a plethora of pertinent facts/examples solely from the readings in Shelton and Kebric (and class lecture, if you wish) to back up your conclusions and that these are based on a variety of authors/sources. Also keep in mind the biases in the evidence.

Religion:
Use Shelton #420 and 421 and the stories about Eunus and the Sicilian slave revolt and the revolt of Spartacus as a springboard for a discussion of Roman religion. As usual, make sure you give a plethora of pertinent facts/examples, starting with the above evidence, to back up your conclusions. Restrict your evidence base to the readings for this unit and class notes.
