- In-text Citations
- you must have in-text citations for your sources of information (facts, theories, parts of myths, etc.)
- every main body paragraph should have in-text citations (you want at least 2 good examples with citations per paragraph)
- for Powell's text, see directions for Paper 3
- for the movie, mention the title of the movie in your opening paragraph, then you don't need in-text citations when quoting from the movie itself (but include in the works cited)
- but, for the script, cite only direct quotes, listing the first author, then the title of the script, i.e. (Clements, "Hercules Script") (but include in the works cited)
- Works Cited "Page" reminders:
- to save paper, don't put on a separate page
- in the same font, size, etc. as your main text
- use hanging indents

Topics:
- Source material: the movie Hercules, Powell, Ch 13, 15, 16, 18, and the part of 17 that deals with Theseus and the part of 19 that deals with Heracles. If writing one longer essay, then you must use at least one of the translations of the following plays: Sophocles'Oedipus at Colonus, Women of Trachis, Oedipus Rex; Euripides' Herakles, Hippolytus (click here and use the pull-down menus)
Prompt: Giglamesh, Heracles(Gk myth), Hercules(movie), Theseus, Oedipus — all are heroes whom we have covered in this unit. Using only the primary source material listed above, which of these 5 would you most like to be and which would you least like to be based solely on their character traits.
- Source material: the movie Hercules, Powell, Ch 12. If writing one longer essay, then you must use both of the following translations: the Odyssey, Book 11 (click here) and the Aeneid, Book 6 (click here)
Prompt: Hercules, Odysseus, and Aeneas. Using only the primary source material listed above, compare contrast the journeys the three made to the "underworld," making sure you cover why they went, how they went, what they got out of it.
